All for one and one for all.

I have now read all three of Alexandre Dumas' books about Athos, Porthos, Aramis, and D'Artagnan (The Three Musketeers, Twenty Years After, and The Man in the Iron Mask). The last one brought tears to my eyes as I was reading it in the lunch room at work on Friday. I felt pretty foolish, even though I doubt that anyone noticed. But hey, it was sad! Stupid Dumas.

This means that I need to find a new classic book to read. I could continue with Dumas (haven't read The Count of Monte Cristo, for example), but I feel that it's probably time to move on for awhile. Branch out, if you will. There are so many books that I feel that I ought to have read already, and yet I haven't. So this is my plea. What books do you feel are required reading? I'm talking established classics here. You know the ones I mean. They are a part of cultural memory and people know them and reference them without actually having read them.

Any thoughts?
