things that haven't happened

During my lunch break yesterday, I started reading a science fiction book in which the first chapter takes place on April 21, 2009. It was only written in the late 90s, but apparently by this time we should have 3D displays on all of our computers, and everyone should be wearing red jeans, because the blue ones are out of style. There were several other predictions of that nature, some rather more political or wide-reaching, but of course I don't remember those. Anyway, I am sad that my reality does not live up to the potential of the FUTURE!

I have to say, though, that I like the experience of reading sci fi on the touch screen of my iPod. That does feel pretty future-y.

In other news, Sharif and I read some tips on a website last night, regarding teaching your bird to talk. In these instructions, step 1 is to make sure that your bird trusts you completely, and that you trust your bird completely. Step 2 involves rubbing the bird's neck while saying "I love you." and then kissing the bird just before saying the word "kiss." Is this the cutesiest possible teaching method? I say yes!

In other other news, I had another dream last night in which Sharif gave me an ugly engagement ring. This is the silliest recurring dream I've ever had. But I'll take it any day (night) over the teeth-falling-out dream. Or even the my-contact-lenses-are-too-big-for-my-eyes dream or the carrying-something-bulky-through-an-uncomfortably-bright-place-while-looking-for-a-bathroom one.
