The past four days have been ridiculously social. Thursday night we were at the bar for Lacey's end-of-an-era celebration. Friday night, Sharif and I went out for Pho and unexpectedly met up with a bunch of people, which turned it into a gathering.
Saturday afternoon, it was a gorgeous day and there was a pirate festival (sorry, I mean Privateer Day) at Fells Point, and the boy and I took Maui along. We looked at booths and sat by the water, but mostly we talked to strangers. When you show up to a crowded area with a bird on a leash, you're very popular. Maui did great, and I realized that we are now destined to be a topic of strangers' future conversations. (And will appear on some flickr pages, probably.)
After returning the bird to the house, we set off immediately for Ben's 30th birthday celebration, which started off with 25-30 people at Sakura. After dinner, a smaller group of us went roller skating. It had been a long time, but I managed to go around and around the rink without falling once. It was fun, and harder work than I remembered.
We spent Sunday at Sharif's parents' house. The bird came with us, of course, and a lot of energy was spent keeping bird and dog a reasonable distance apart. So far, 3 out of 3 dogs who have encountered Maui are at least somewhat afraid of him. Maui, for his part, really doesn't care.
So that was the super social weekend. At the end of all of that, I was exhausted, but I only managed to sleep for two hours at a time last night. I don't know why, but I was waking up at annoyingly regular intervals. And then I had to get up early to take Visiting Doggie for his morning walk in the pouring rain. Not my happiest morning, as you can imagine.
Hopefully I'll get a chance to be quiet and recharge tonight. I have a date with the television.
