My office is on Liberal Leave today. This means that I can stay home, but I need to use a vacation or personal day.
I got up and showered and dressed on time. But my road hasn't been plowed, it hasn't been salted. I was watching the news, and they kept saying "if you don't have to leave the house today, just don't." I still went out and cleaned off my car. It took me a long time, and once I got all the way around . . . I had to scrape again, because the freezing rain stuck. I called the office and left a message that I wasn't leaving at that time, and would re-evaluate later. I watched one person drive out of my neighborhood. His wheels were spinning, but he made it out slowly.
Over the next couple of hours, I called the office a few more times, but no one ever answered. I've decided to stay home.
I heated up some cinnamon rolls, I made a cup of coffee. Lacey and I are watching TV and having good roommate time. Not a bad way to spend a Wednesday.
We spent a good ten minutes watching the porsche down the street attempt to leave his parking space. He tried and tried. He got out and kicked the tires. He stomped up and down in the snow. He tried some more. He got out and cursed loudly enough that we heard him clearly from a block away. We giggled.
Cinnamon rolls are genius. I wish Panera delivered...
Ha, I had the exact same experience. Got up, showered, got dressed, put on my shoes, went outside, came back inside, put on my boots... scraped off the car with a broken CD case and no gloves (they were icy from scraping off the car yesterday, and I left them in the car, where they froze solid), watched a neighbor slip and slide and finally give up driving on the unplowed street... couldn't back out of the driveway because my car was in a deep hole of snow... gave up and called in.
I'm pretty irritated that I have to use personal hours when the news is saying that it's not safe to drive, but whatevs. At least I'm home.
Yesterday afternoon my office implemented Liberal Leave at around 2pm. My co-worker Elizabeth aptly compared it to when a parent asks a child to choose their own punishments. This is what it sounds like here: "I mean, you can leave if you want to... as long as you're sure that's what you want... Oh no, I'm sure we'll just fine if you leave... incidentally I wanted to remind you that your review is coming up this month... just though you should know that."
The red line was completely fuxt up this morning on top of nearly the entire DC Metro Area seemed to be completely unplowed save for a few important state highways... I'm so annoyed my office didn't close but w/e.

I stayed up ALL night, watching the horrible weather on the news, and I heared them several times say, "if you don't have to leave, don't"..the only thing was, I would have to leave around 5pm to go to class. So check my school's website & it was CLOSED! wohoo. I had a test today that I wasn't too sure about, this gives me another week to prepare my self, its awesome.
But I did have to go to work, infact I'm there now, but that's the good thing, its only like 15 min walk, and the weather has calmed down a little. I just hope school is open tomorrow, I need to get some transcripts.
Glad to see your enjoying your WHOLE day in, lucky joanna and other staying at home people. *envy ENVYYY*
