It started snowing last night before I left open mic. Luckily, it was moving in from the South, so driving conditions improved as I drove home ahead of the worst of it. We got an inch or two overnight, but not enough to impact my workday. Ah well.
Last night was also notable because it marked Erica's first-ever full set at the open mic. She sang three songs, accompanied by Rowan on guitar, and it was very cool. I think that Dan was properly surprised by her birthday-present cover of one of his songs. Success! It was stressful for me and Jess right until Erica arrived, as we were the ones in charge of making sure that she got on the list in a slot in the right time frame, the plan remained a secret, Dan was there, and Dan didn't sing the wrong song. As it was, circumstances conspired to make Erica later than expected, and some schedule juggling had to happen, despite Sharif's impressive stalling techniques. In the end, though, all turned out well.
Completely unrelatedly, my boss recently went on vacation to Mexico. She ended up staying in the exact resort where I spent a lot of afternoons (and an occasional night) when I was a flight attendant. We realized this only the day before she left, and I told her glorious tales of the guacamole and the margaritas by the pool. Man, that job really had some excellent perks. Shame about the customers. And the hours. And the pay rate . . .
