Some good things:

The long weekend. Two movies, lots of grilled food, lots of beer, lots of doggies, lots of friends. Four days away from the office, with the Boy.

I was just given a more-than-a-month-long reprieve on a huge project that I've been worried about finishing. I was doing OK, but then another department asked me to delay it for a while, which gives me plenty of time to put together the necessary paperwork without hurry.

Chili cookoff at the office today meant free tasty lunch for all.

Ungood:

A longtime family friend died over the weekend, after living with cancer for much longer than his doctors predicted he would. The service is tonight, so I'll be going there after work. I will possibly show up to open mic still, if pretty late, because it's good to see smiles after something like that.

Mike was a good friend of my parents- we went to the same church for years, his daughter was a year behind me in school. He was singlehandedly responsible for many a cookout, as he built the decks on both houses in which I grew up. This is the third person this month for me. First was a manager at one of our branch offices. The second, of course, was my Grandpa. I actually asked Sharif yesterday "Why is everybody dying?"

Im sorry loves.
Death is one of those events that seems to come in waves.
Which is really not fair.

Oh man, sorry to hear it. They always do seem to come in battalions, huh? Hopefully we'll see you after, I'll buy you a drink or something.

Yeah, remember in college when my grandpa died and I came back and immediately received a call that my friend Gerard had died? I was a wreck. I took several incompletes that semester, which was very out of character, because they were so close to finals and I just couldn't finish my projects well. And then of course there was the grandma/dad/uncle cluster. I don't know why it comes in waves, but it does seem to. ::love:: I'm leaving my irreverent funny icon on this comment not out of irreverence, but out of hoping that it might cheer you slightly.

The wave does stop, every time.
